Matan(TEXT) from Book :

اعلم أرشدك الله لطاعته: أن الحنيفية ملة إبراهيم أن تعبد الله وحده مخلصاً له الدين،

كما قال تعالى:

                     وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ﴾ الذاريات:56]

Know, May Allah guide you to obeying Him, that Haneefiyyah is the religion of Ibraheem: It is that you worship Allah making the religion purely for Him, as He said: ‘’ And I have not created the jinn and mankind except to worship Me (Alone).’’

  • If you still see at the Authors statements you still see Compassion of Author for the reader of these treaties.
  • In Beginning the Author did du’aa which starts by saying, ‘’I ask Allaah, the Most Generous …’’ and again he did du’aa here which starts by saying, ‘’May Allaah guide you to obeying Him’’.
  • This means, ‘’I ask Allaah that He guides you to the religion of Prophets’’. And the father of all Prophets is Ibraheem Alyhe salaam. Because, Majority of Prophets was from his lineage.
  • Haneef linguistically means something which leans towards. It technically means the person who leans towards Tawheed as opposed to Shirk.
  • Allaah عزوجل commanded all the Humans and Jins to worship Him purely. And this is what He created Humans and Jins for.
  • Allaah عزوجل described the Da’wa of Prophets In Soorah An-Nahl verse 36,And verily, We have sent among every Ummah (community, nation) a Messenger (proclaiming): “Worship Allah (Alone), and avoid (or keep away from)Taghut (all false deities, etc. i.e. do not worship Taghut besides Allah).” For this reason Allaah created mankind.
  • Q7 : What is ‘Aqeedah?

A: It is Tawheed which is a worship. And the proof is mentioned by author which is verse 56 of Soorah Adh-Dhaariyaat, ‘’And I have not created the jinn and mankind except to worship Me (Alone)’’.

  • Extra Benefit: Whenever Prophet would speak, Sahabah would gather around him to take the hadeeth to the point that the person who narrated the hadeeth said that if they were covered then, it would cover all of them. This have some spiritual wisdom that Angels come down and cover the all individuals.
  • Ibne Katheer mentioned in his tafseer the narration of Ibne ‘Abbas who said in his tafseer of

يَعْبُدُونِ meaning يُوَحِّدُونَ (to single out Allaah).

  • Q8 : Why did Allaah عزوجل created you?

A: To worship Him Alone.

  • Q 9: What is Worship?

A:  Worship means humbling oneself in front of Allaah عزوجل or submitting to Him.

  • And in regards to Arabic language Mu’abbad means a path that is been made easy to traverse on it which is opposite of the path that has not been made to traverse on it. So Mu’abbad in Arabic language means which that becomes humble. And in Sharee’ah Mu’abbad means humiliating oneself is only to Allaah عزوجل
  • Q 10: When are you Slave of Allaah?

A: If you were submissive and humble to Allaah. And if you are not submissive and humble to Allaah then you are considered Arrogant and pride.

  • You are slave of Allaah عزوجل and this is honouring the individual.
  • In regards to our Shahadah we say, ‘’ We bear witness that Prophet is Allaah’s Servant and His Messenger.’’ And that Allaah عزوجل described him as servant shows Allaah’s honouring him.
  • There are different definitions of Ibaadah and they are many.

Definition of Worship (العبادة)

It is a comprehensive word for everything that Allaah loves and is pleased with from the sayings and actions that are outwards and inwards.

Some points on ‘Ibaadah:

1)Basic Principle in Worship (أصل في العبادة) : You stop and do not do any form of ‘Ibaadah, unless you have evidence. Those things other than ‘Ibaadah the Basic ruling is : that it is permissible, unless you have proof which makes it impermissible. But, أصل Asl in regards to ‘Ibaadah is that you stop unless you have evidence allowing it. The evidence allowing it is command أمر (Amr) from Qur’aan and Sunnah.

Q 11: What is this command?

A:  1) قال الله (Allaah said). As in Soorah Hud verse 112, ‘’So stand (ask Allah to make) you (Muhammad  ) firm and straight (on the religion of Islamic Monotheism) as you are commanded..’’

(Prophet Sal Allaaho ‘Alyhe wasalam said):  As in Hadeeth,

‘’Whoever introduces into this affair of ours that which does not belong to it, will have it rejected.’’

Example: A person comes and wants to do ‘Ibaada. We ask him who permitted him. Is there a command from Qur’aan and Sunnah ? This person said, ‘’No.But, for reward and I am becoming religious’’.

Our response is: ‘’that which is not part of the religion meaning not from Qur’aan and Sunnah is rejected. We do not have any new form of worship as religion is complete. As in Soorah Al Ma’idah verse 5, ‘’ This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.’’

2) Conditions of Worship (شروط العبادة) : There are two conditions for acceptance of ‘Ibaadah.

  • Ikhlaas means doing act of worship sincerely for Allaah عزوجل and Taab’e means doing act of worship following the Sunnah of Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم.
  • The one who left Ikhlaas committed Shirk and this action will be rejected. Proof in Soorah Al An’aam verse 88, ‘But if they had joined in worship others with Allah, all that they used to do would have been of no benefit to them.’’

As in Hadeeth Narrated by Abu Huraira
Allah’s Messenger
صلى الله عليه وسلم said: Allah عزوجل said: Among all partners, I am the most dispensable with association. So anyone who performs a deed in which he ascribes to Me others; I will abandon him and his act of polytheism. (This Hadith is sound and reported by Muslim).

  •  Action is rejected if it’s not upon the Sunnah of Prophet As in Hadeeth,

‘’Whoever introduces into this affair of ours that which does not belong to it, will have it rejected.’’

  • Even if this person has ikhlaas and strived very hard but his action is not upon Sunnah. So, action is rejected. And if this person acts upon the Sunnah but his intention is not sincere then, his action is rejected. Therefore, in both cases action is rejected.

Examples:

  • A person want to pray after maghrib 5 Rakah of Sunnah and he cries in Sajdah with sincerity. This action becomes Baatil. Because, his ikhlaas is not followed by worship upon Sunnah.
  • A person prays 2 Rakah of Sunnah upon following Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم but shows off as Riyaa’ and do not have Ikhlaas. This person’s action gets impure by Minor Shirk. So, his prayer is not accepted.
  • A person prays 2 Rakaah of Sunnah upon Ikhlass and following Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم then his prayer is Saheehah صحيحة because Allaah عزوجل knows if it is accepted مقبولة or not.

4)Pillars of worship (أركان العبادة) : These Pillars must be fulfilled in worship and balanced:

  • Khawwf الخوف: Fear of Allaah عزوجل.
  • Rijaa’ الرجاء: Hope for the reward from Allaah عزوجل.
  • Mahabbah المحبة : Loving Allaah عزوجل.

Whoever is deficient in these 3 or worships Allaah عزوجل in one of these 3 falls into one of the 3 astray groups:

  • Khawwf الخوف: Worshipping Allaah عزوجل with fear means fear of punishment of Allaah عزوجل.Whoever goes extreme in his fear falls into Khawaarij and وعدي Wa’ediyy. Because, they say there is no Eeman with sinning. The person who falls into a Major sin lefts Islaam. Khawaarij and Wa’ediyy worship Allaah عزوجل strictly with Khawf.
  • Rijaa’ الرجاء: Hoping for reward from Allaah عزوجل means wanting the Mercy of Allaah عزوجل. Whoever goes extreme in his hoping for Allaah’s reward. They say, a person’s Eeman is not effected by sin. So, no matter what the sin maybe. They are called Murji’ee مرجع.
  • Mahabbah المحبة : As in Soorah Al Baqarah verse 165, ‘ But those who believe, love Allah more (than anything else).

Those who only worship with love are Extreme Sufee. They say it is suffiencet to love Allah عزوجل. We do not want his Mercy neither we Fear His punishment. We just worship by Love. They have said very ugly statements. They say it is ‘Eshq ul ‘Ibaadah which means it is like love just like wanting for woman in regards to sexual relations. This is how the Arabs used this word ‘Eshq in Arabic language. Same love some people do with Prophet

Therefore, The Sunni worships Allaah عزوجل in these all which should be balanced. And neither Sunni goes extreme in one of these .This is middle Manhaj and balanced life.  As in Soorah Al Anbiya’ verse90, ‘’ , and they used to call on Us with hope and fear, and used to humble themselves before Us’’.

4)Types of Worship (أنواع العبادة) :

  • عبادات قولية : ’Ebaadat Qawliyyah means worshipping Allaah عزوجل verbally with tongue. Like, doing dhikr of Allaah عزوجل, reciting Qur’aan, calling people to Tawheed and forbidding shirk and everything which has to do with actions of tongue.
  • :عبادات فعلية ‘Ebaadat f’iliyyah means worshipping Allaah عزوجل with limbs. Like, Prayer, Rukoo, Sujood and actions that has to do with limbs.
  • :عبادات قلبية ‘Ebaadat Qalbiyyah means worshipping Allaah عزوجل with heart. Like, Ikhlaas, Fear, Tawakul, Hope, Love, Trust and actions that has to do with heart.
  • وعبادات مالية: ‘Ebaadat Maaliyyah means worshipping Allaah عزوجل with wealth. Like, Giving Zakaah and charity.

   – 8

When you acknowledge that Allaah has created you for His worship, then know that worship is not regarded as such unless it is accompanied by tawheed, just as prayer is not regarded as prayer unless it is accompanied by purification (taharah). So when shirk enters into worship it corrupts it just like an impurity invalidates purification.

  • This mentioned by Author is a Principle because Shirk nullifies all worship.
  • So, if you were in the state of purification and you washed yourself in the sea and then, small portion of wind passed through or a small amount of urine passed through. This gusal that you made in the sea is null and void. Similarly, if you Pray, Fast and do numerous ‘Ebaadah then you do Shirk then it makes ‘Ebaadah null and void.

9-

So when you recognise that if shirk enters into worship, it corrupts it, negates all the actions and the one who does it is eternally in the Hell-Fire, then you will realise the most important matter obligatory upon you: recognition of this fact, in order that Allaah may save you from the abyss of committing shirk with Him, about which He, the Most High said, “Verily, Allaah forgives not that partners should be set up with him in worship, but He forgives except that (anything else) to whom He pleases.” [an-Nisaa (4):116]

And this knowledge comprises of four principles which Allaah, the Most High, has mentioned in His Book.

  • If a person dies upon Shirk he will be in Hell-fire forever.
  • Knowledge of the 4 Principles will save you from the Net of Shirk. Because, Shirk makes you dwell in Hellfire forever and Shaytaan haunts you.
  • Shirk is extremely dangerous. Because, Allaah عزوجل does not forgive it and person is prohibited from entering Paradise.
